Plagiarism Detection Guide (http://library.southernct.edu/plagiarism.htm)

As your library liaison, I

Buley librarians have just put up a library guide on plagiarism detection.  It contains:

  • What is plagiarism

  • SCSU Policy

  • Plagiarism Prevention tools

  • Provide bibliographic instructions for your class in regard to how to use library resources. (Classes can be scheduled by directly contacting me. I would prefer having the research topics ahead of time to be used as demos in class.)

  • Meet with individual faculty, graduates and undergraduates and discuss on the search strategies for their specific research topics.

  • Develop the library collections for education, educational leadership, exercise science, school health, special education, counseling and school psychology.

Faculty Workshop - Oct. 30, 2:00p.m. (Buley 17)

As you may have noticed, our online databases and e-resources at Buley are growing. To help you make better use of the collection, I would like to provide a workshop for the faculty members at the School of Education to brush up on your search skills. The workshop will focus on the searching strategies of the education related databases such as ERIC, Academic Search Elite (EBSCO), Education Index, and CONSULS. Even if you have used these databases, this should be a good time to get some information on the newer subscriptions. If you plan to come, please email me your name and questions at chengx1@southernct.edu. The workshop will be held at Buley 17.

Elsevier Science Journals Online

This is a new online database Buley subscribed to! Some of the education journal titles covered by the database can be found here: http://www.southernct.edu/~cheng/edtitles.htm

Journal Locator

We will be getting Journal Locator by Fall. It will list all of our journals and be string searchable as well title browseable. It will contain:
1. All paper SCSU journals with links to the Consuls page
2. All direct and indirect (eg JSTOR, MUSE, etc) e-journals we subscribe to either via publisher, by title, or by aggregator. Each individual title will have a link that goes to the actual online TofC for that journal
3. All titles that are located in one of the full text databases (ie Lexis/Nexis, Academic Search Premier (Ebsco), Business Source Premier, Expanded Academic ASAP (iCONN) etc.) with links to at least the database level
4.  For a sample go to http://tdnet.lib.uh.edu/ this is University of Houston's implementation of TD-Net
