| Introduction I
joined the Department of Sociology at Southern Connecticut State
University in the Fall of 2004. My first four years at SCSU
have been rewarding. I enjoy my teaching and I am excited by
the energy and creativity of my students. I also began my work
as Graduate Program
Coordinator beginning in Fall 2007, and thus far have enjoyed working
closely with our graduate students in developing their sociological
imaginations, research skills, and career prospects.
Educational Background
My academic career began in the public school system in my hometown
of Malden, Massachusetts. From here I went on to attend the
University of New Hampshire in Durham, graduating in 1997 with a
Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a minor in Business
Administration. Upon graduating college I continued my education as
a graduate student in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology
at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. There I earned
both a Master of Arts in Sociology (1999) and most recently a PhD in
Sociology (2004). While at Northeastern I also earned a
Certificate in Women's Studies. I have received further
methodological training at the Institute for Social Research at the
University of Michigan in Ann Arbor as well as with the National
Center for Education Statistics at their ECLS-K Database Training
