COURSE TITLE

International Perspective on Digital Libraries-Seminar on Chinese Digital Librarianship

COURSE INTRODUCTION

This course is meant to act as an introduction to international digital library perspectives with a focus on digital librarianship in China. In a broad sense the course will provide students with practical experience alongside library professionals. Program participants will also be exposed to current applications used for various digital library services and resource sharing in China.

The course will consist of seven lectures and five library tours. Attendance and participation in all of these will count towards 20% of the final grade. Students will be expected to keep a journal in which they are to compare international digital librarianship, counting as 10% of the final grade. Also there will be one analytical paper on an aspect of international digital library perspectives, 30% of the final grade, and one exploratory paper on a digital library in China or another foreign country, 40% of the final grade. The class will be held in the National Library of China. Students will have an opportunity to visit their newly constructed building for the National Digital Library of China Project.
