Foreign Film Websites

  • World Festival of Foreign Films. This a fun website that invites you to participate in selecting the best films and introduce yourself to its web community. It categorizes films by country, genre as well as includes documentary.
  • ForeignFilms.com. The detailed and logical criteria to browse films by country, genre, language give you easy access even to the most obscure foreign film titles. Interesting discussion forums also entice you to explore these films.
  • The Internet Movie Database. If you already know the title of the film, this is a very helpful site. It provides you details of the entire cast and its links of a particular film. A unique feature not easily found in other sites.
  • About.com. Inspite of its claim that it is " The starting place for exploring cinema from all over the world, with reviews, filmographies, top ten, and resources on films, actors and directors from Australia, Canada, China, Colombia, Denmark, ...and virtually everywhere else", this eclectic website is rather difficult to navigate. However, it is worth a try just for exploring this website's links to numerous resources such as film festivals, independent films, online movies, reviews, etc.
  • Combustiblecelluloid.com. Mr. Jeffrey M. Anderson, a working film critic, created and maintains this website to showcase his love for films. His movie reviews are often in-depth, insightful and passionate for the truely great films that he appreciates. Read his review on Aguirre, the wrath of god and you will agree with me. However, all his reviews are arranged alphabetacally by titles of the movies and there is no separate category of foreign films as such.

Movie Review Websites

  • Boston Phoenix. The movie section offers Film Culture and Film Archives that feature full-length articles and reviews by film critics Peter Keough, Steve Vineberg, Gerald Peary, etc. Again, the reviews are arranged in alphabetical order and the short reviews are rather superficial. However, an objective viewer may find this dispassionate article on Wong Kar-Wai's Happy Together helpful in understanding his style.

Your feedback and suggestions for new titles are most welcome. Also if you would like to have your reviews considered for publication on this website, please email Hing Wu at:
