SOC 315L:  Writing Assignment # 1:  Due 10/9/07

1.  Your papers must be 5 pages long, about 1” margins all around, 10- or 12-Point type.  There should be a title page; your title should do a good job of summarizing your paper’s major themes.

2.  Consult the L course guide for how to handle references, as well as other tips and criteria.

3.  Compare and contrast two films, or two TV shows, or two websites for their gender roles.  There should be contrasting gender roles in the two cultural artifacts you pick.  The contrast can be female vs. male, present day vs. past, or one culture vs. another.   If you have any doubts about your topic, ask me about it in advance.  

4.  Make reference to at least four (correctly cited) course readings from topics 1 through 7.  These references should be convincing.  You may quote very sparingly from the references; the bulk of the paper must be your own writing.
