DEVELOPMENTAL MATHEMATICS INFORMATION

The Mathematics Department has changed the prerequisites for certain lower-level mathematics courses.  These changes will affect students who have not finished their University Requirements in Mathematics by the end of the Fall 2006 semester.

Beginning with WinterSession of 2006, a grade (A, B, C, D, F) obtained in MAT 095 will contribute 3 credits toward the calculations of a student's GPA.  Therefore MAT 095 will now have an effect on a student's GPA, but as in the past, will not count toward graduation credits.

Beginning with Spring 2009 and all semesters following: We will offer MAT 100, and we will offer only the 3-credit version of MAT 102, Intermediate Algebra (Extended). A student should take MAT 100 if: (1) Their placement level is "MAT 100", OR (2) They have passed MAT 095 with a grade of C- or better. A student should take the 3-credit MAT 102 if: (1) Their placement level is "MAT 102", OR (2) They have passed MAT 095 with a grade of D+, D, or D-, OR (3) They are eligible for MAT 100, but they wish to take a slower-paced course.

Any entering student who places into MAT 095 must complete this course within the first 24 load credits of university work. If a student fails to complete MAT 095 within 24 credits of coursework, s/he will not be allowed to re-register for courses at SCSU.
