Long Paper #1 – Problems in Philosophy

Your paper should include the following sections in the order listed:

1. Describe and explain the problem of evil (in argument form). What is it supposed to prove and how does it attempt to do so?

2. Briefly explain the difference between moral and natural (i.e., physical) evil and the effect this difference has on the difficulty, for theists, of responding to this argument.

3. Explain in detail the two strongest theistic justifications for the existence of moral evil, and criticisms of these justifications.

4. Do the same for the existence of natural evil.

5. Evaluate the problem of evil: Do you think it succeeds? Why or why not?

5 full pages minimum, 8 pages maximum; Separate title page; 1 inch margins; 12 pt. type; Double-spaced; Times-New Roman font; Page numbers; Stapled.

As required for L-courses, your papers will be graded for spelling, grammar, organization, etc., in addition to the content. If you have difficulties in these areas, I recommend that you take your paper to the Campus Writing Center in Wintergreen before turning it in.
