Short Paper #1 – Problems in Philosophy

Bellamy’s view about the consequences of technological advancement in the 20th century are very optimistic, perhaps too optimistic from our perspective. Still, we hear continual predictions that technological progress will diminish hunger and cure disease, will make our lives easier and provide new sources of entertainment. What is your view about the overall effects of technological development? Are they generally positive? Negative? Somewhere in between? Is this due to the nature of technology or the way in which we have chosen to use it? Explain your position in detail and support it with examples and/or arguments.

2 full pages minimum, 3 pages maximum; Separate title page; 1 inch margins; 12 pt. type; Double-spaced; Times-New Roman font; Page numbers; Stapled.

As required for L-courses, your papers will be graded for spelling, grammar, organization, etc., in addition to the content. If you have difficulties in these areas, I recommend that you take your paper to the Campus Writing Center in Wintergreen before turning it in.
