Logic Writing Assignment #10
The final writing assignment will consist of a short essay in which you discuss the type of argument that is used most prevalently in your academic major. You will probably need to meet with a professor in your major to get help with this assignment; you are welcome to do additional research if you think it will be helpful, though it isn’t required. Address the following issues in your paper:
(1) What is the most prevalent argument in your major? If there are other types of arguments that are commonly used, briefly mention them. If you have yet to declare a major, use the major that you are currently leaning toward. If you are a double major, pick one of your two majors.
(2) Why is this argument the one used most often in your major? In other words, what it is about the subject matter studied in your major that lends itself to this particular type of argument?
(3) Give two examples from your major of ways in which this argument is used. Select examples that are as different from each other as possible, reflecting the diversity of issues and methods found in your major.
This assignment is worth 3 times as much as the other writing assignments.
Double-spaced, minimum 2 full pages of content, number pages, staple. No extra spaces, extraneous titles or headers, or anything else intended to artificially inflate the length of the paper. Provide full citations for any sources used in your research, using any standard method that provides all of the relevant information (including exact page numbers).
Write the paper in essay format with a brief introduction and conclusion and a coherent organization. Your grade will be lowered if there are numerous spelling or grammatical errors.
