Writing Assignment #4
Write a brief essay (minimum 1 full page) describing a way in which you have used argumentation and logical analysis since the beginning of the semester in some discussion, dispute, or judgment outside of our class (not with other Logic students). Make sure to clearly describe the situation, the issue being discussed, debated, or judged, the competing view or argument (if any), and what conclusions you and the others (if any) were led to. In the course of your description, clearly state the argument or arguments in standard form (indented with a separate line for each premise and conclusion). If you have trouble thinking of an appropriate example, go out and use logic in a relevant way and then write about it.
Grammar and Spelling: Make sure that your papers are clearly written – i.e., that the meaning is clear enough that any other student would be able to understand it. Papers will be downgraded for spelling, grammatical, and stylistic errors if there are more than 2 per page.
Sources: You shouldn’t use any outside sources since your arguments are supposed to be original.
Format: 12 point type, double-spaced, 1-1.5 inch margins, minimum 1 full page of content. Number and staple pages if more than one page.
