Additional Arguments for the Existence of God

Argument from Design (Teleological)

1. A watch is such an intricate and complex thing that we assume it must have been designed by an intelligent creature – a human being.
2. Natural objects are much more intricate and complex.
3. Therefore, they must have been designed by a creature much more intelligent than human beings.
4. The only creature we can conceive that is this intelligent is God.
5. Therefore, God exists.

Ontological Argument (Short Version)

1. The idea of God is the idea of the greatest conceivable being.
2. If God lacked existence, God would not be the greatest conceivable being.
3. Therefore, God exists.

Ontological Argument (Long Version)

1. The idea of God is the idea of the greatest conceivable being.
2. God either exists or is merely an idea in our minds.
3. If God is merely an idea in our minds then it is possible to conceive an even greater being: a being that has all of the characteristics of God plus existence.
4. However, since God is the greatest conceivable being, we can conceive no being greater than God.
5. Therefore, God is not a mere idea in our minds.
6. Therefore, God exists.

Argument from Religious Experience

1. Religious people have mystical experiences, such as the feeling of being overcome by the presence of the grace of God.

2. These experiences can be explained in terms of psychological causes, physiological causes, or by the actual presence or act of God.

3. The best explanation of these experiences is that they are caused by the actual presence of God or by an act of God.

4. Therefore, God exists.
