Recount in detail two experiences: one of being placed by others in a group or category (cultural or otherwise) that you found constraining or inaccurate, and one of voluntarily associating yourself with a group or category (e.g., concerning styles of dress or music, social classes, political views, religion). In what various ways (both positive and negative) did these episodes affect your behavior and your image of yourself?

3 full pages minimum to 4 pages maximum paper

Times Roman font, 12 point type

Double-spaced

No additional spaces between paragraphs

One inch margins on all sides

Page numbers

Cite all quotations and paraphrases, including footnotes

Stapled

Separate title page with title, name, and class (not included in the number of pages)

Take your final draft to the writing center: Much of your grade will be based on how well the paper is written.

Perhaps the most important essay-writing skill (as far as I’m concerned) is determining what is most relevant, less relevant, and irrelevant, and using the appropriate amount of space and detail for each issue. Also, it is important to weave the points in your paper into an organic whole that is continuous and has smooth transitions between the different parts.
