Recent Scholarly Activities Invited formal course work/lectures on “Capacity Maturity Model Integration (CMMI)” 《CMMI概论》in Software College, Harbin Institute of technology, 3 credits, 36 hours, 2 assignments, more than 120 graduate students in the class. (Winter 2006) Invited formal course work/lectures on “Applications of Multimedia Interface Design and Human Computer Interaction (HCI) in Digital Libraries” “人机互动与多媒体设计在图书馆的应用”in the Department of Information Management, Nanjing University, 2 credits, 20 hours, 1 assignment, more than 140 undergraduate and graduate students attended the course. (Summer 2005 and 2004) Invited formal course work/lectures on “IT Project Management and Introduction to Capacity Maturity Model (CMM)” 《IT项目管理与CMM概论》in Software College, Xiamen University, 2 credits, 20 hours, 1 final assignment, more than 120 students including both undergraduate and graduate students. (Summer 2005 and 2006) Invited formal course work/lectures on “Applications of Multimedia Interface Design and Human Computer Interaction (HCI) in Libraries” “人机互动与多媒体设计在图书馆的应用”in the Graduate Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), 2 credits, 20 hours, 1 assignment, about 60 graduate students attended the course.(Summer 2005) Invited formal course work/lectures on “Digital Libraries & Computer Technology” in Nanjing University Department of Information Management, Jiangsu, China. 2 credits, 30 hours, about 150 students including both under and graduates. (Summer 2004) Have been teaching Digital Libraries course at graduate level for more than three years. The course touches all major aspects of digital libraries. Curriculum content subjects include concepts and historical development of DLs, DL construction, DL Organization of digital collection, integrating and interoperating digital information, policy and legal issues of DLs, DL interface design, Digital library services, global DL infrastructures and future development of DLs. There are about 220 digital libraries were created by students who took this course. My lectures for the course are prepared for a publication. Appointed as a Panel member of International Program Committee of International Conference Digital Library (ICADL) 2005 Appointed as a Panel member of International Program Committee of International Conference Digital Library (ICDL) 2004 Presented an Invited Talk entitled "Best practice, tools, and techniques for digitizing library materials” at International Conference on Digital Libraries ICDL 2004 Conference in New Delhi on February 24, 2004. Chaired the Session: Archiving and sharing cultural heritage and history globally at International Conference on Digital Libraries (ICDL) 2004 Conference in New Delhi on February 25, 2004. Delivered a talk entitled "The Digital Library Infrastructure, Rethinking Its Models" at Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Symposium on the Libraries' Sustainable Development & Innovation on December 20-23, 2003 in Beijing, China. Delivered a speech on Digital Libraries in Peking University, Beijing on December 18, 2004. Delivered a speech on Digital Libraries in the Library of Chinese Academy of Sciences (LCAS) on December 19 & 20, 2004. Delivered a formal course work/lectures on Digital Libraries at Peking
University in Winter session, 2003. Presented a survey report "The impact of digital libraries on the urban residents of Connecticut - A user-centered study of digital libraries in public library settings" at the conference Toward a User-Centered Approach to Digital Libraries 2003 in Finland, 2003. Delivered a series of lectures on Digital Libraries at Peking University, the Library of Chinese Academy of Sciences (LCAS), Tinghua University Library, the Ministry of National Science and Information, Agricultural University in Hebei Province, Capital Normal University, Medical Library of Chinese PLA, and some others in Summer, 2002. Elected as a Vice-President in Chinese Association of Science and Technology, US in CT. Received CSU grant (2004-05) for proposal of "The Impact of Digital Libraries on the Urban Residents." Managed all activities as a chief cataloger for the Digital Asia Library, a U.S. Department of Education grant funded project, $150,000 for first 3 years from 1999-2001. It is based at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, cooperative with Ohio State University Libraries, University of Minnesota Libraries, and University of Wisconsin-Madison Libraries.
