Text:              A Survey of Mathematics with Applications, by Allen Angel and Stuart Porter,  Addison Wesley, Boston, 2001 Expanded Sixth Edition

 

Exams:          3 unit tests.

 

Attendance: Is mandatory! You are responsible for work you miss. Please be on time. 

 

Class:            During class time I will lecture and assign problems to do in class.

 

Homework:  Will be given everyday! It will not be collected.

 

Quizzes:       Will be given regularly and without advanced notice!

                        Quizzes will be 1 or 2 questions based on the homework. Quiz grades will be combined to count 50% of your grade. Missed quizzes can not be made up! Two or Three quiz grades will be dropped.

 

Grading:       Exam average 50% + Quiz Average 50%

                        In accordance with Math Dept. policy, no late with drawls will be granted.

 

Topics:          Sets, Logic, Algebra, Graphs, Functions, Probability, Statistics, Spreadsheets

 

                        You should always bring your text and a calculator to class, but you may NOT use a phone as a calculator! All phones and such MUST be turned off.

 

                        The focus of this class is solving problems. This means you must THINK!

                        Math is a skill and EVERYONE can do it!! IT must be practiced!

                        If you do not like math, you are entitled to your opinion, but I do not want to know about it.

                        If you need to pass this class in order to graduate, work hard and you should pass, I do not give grades, you earn them!

                        You will need access to a computer with a web connection, email and spreadsheet, like Excel.

 

Homework:  Send me an email. In the subject line include you name and MAT 103.02. In the email include your phone number, what your last math class was and when you took it, and anything else you would like to add.
