This subsection contains reading lists categorized under four kinds of prose works written during the Romantic period. These kinds of prose are not unique to Romanticism but they engage with social and cultural issues that preoccupied the era: namely, the dual revolutions (political and industrial), empire and slavery, women and gender, and the role of imagination in literature and the arts. Students are encouraged to read widely within and across the kinds of prose and to familiarize themselves with the relevant research areas under Secondary Works .
