Grandma is very curious about all thing physics related. For 2 pts extra credit, write a letter to grandma explaining the following topics as we cover them in class. Always be kind and loving with grandma. No more than one page please.
Chapter 4
1. She is confused about the difference between mass, weight and volume. Can you help her?
Chapter 6
1. Grandma has asked you to explain the difference between momentum, change in momentum and impulse. Can you help her?
Chapter 7
1. Grandma loves physics, but doesn't understand why there are so many types of energy's!! As she was reading the chapter she had to close the book because she saw too many types of energy and got so confused. Can you please identify the types of energy for grandma and explain what each energy means so she can love physics again and reopen her book!
Chapter 13
Grandma is very much confused. She does not understand why an object sinks or floats! She puts a penny in the water, and it sinks, and then puts a pool noodle in the water and it floats, and she cannot figure out why one sinks when the other floats!! Please use the concept of buoyant force, and help her out.
Chapter 14: Grandma has her mind set that Daniel Bernoulli is a man that wasn't too important. Please tell grandma who exactly Daniel Bermoulli is, his principle and an exampe to prove that his principle is indeed true.
Chapter 15- Nobody likes to see an angry grandma. All she wanted to do is eat her soup with her toast. But her soup remained hot much longer than her toast and she couldn't eat her toast with soup in peace!! She wanted to eat them at the same time. Chapter 17- As grandma was watching the news on TV, she seen an elder woman, like herself, walk across hot coals, with no pain. Grandma said "if she can do it, so can I"! Grandma wanted to try it herself, but was worried that it would not work. She called you and asked you to explain the physics of hot coal walking. Please explain it to grandma in terms of specific heat capacity and the low conductivity of ash. You might also warn grandma to never try anything that she sees on TV unless she consults a trained professional!
